Amazon reports that they will be creating about 800 jobs related to research, engineering, cloud computing and science in the locations like Austin and Texas. Big Tech is expanding in this area. Late last year, it was announced by Apple that the company will be investing almost $1 billion in Austin’s campus. The Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market also has its headquartered in Austin already.
After seeing the expansion of Apple, Amazon also be adding almost 800 jobs in the locations like Austin and Texas, as announced on Thursday. In Austin, Amazon already has a staff of more than 6600 workers and the new employees will join them. It includes about 1000 workers of corporate level, as per the reports from Austin American-Statesman. Amazon informed that they have plans to hire new employees in coming years and fill the workplace which is about 145,000-square-foot. It is the space on four floors of The Domain, a North Austin development. The new employees will be hired for technical jobs in engineering, research, cloud computing, etc.
Amazon had shortlisted 20 cities for developing their headquarters and Texas was the second important location for this. Amazon chose Northern Virginia and New York’s Long Island City for placing their 50,000 employees. However, after facing opposition from the locals, the company canceled its plan of building the office in Long Island City and decided to create jobs in other locations in the country to match the need of talent pool in the company. Austin will be a solid tech hub after Amazon creates jobs there. Already, the city attracts many techies. In December, Apple had announced about the investment of $1 billion in the city campus, which will make space for about 5,000 employees. Other giants like Samsung, Google, Facebook, Dell, etc. already have major offices in Austin. Amazon has already created about 22,000 jobs in Texas and now, Austin will be added with 800 tech jobs by the world’s largest online retailer.
